BUY ORGANIC OR RECYCLED LEASHES, COLLARS, BEEDS OR TOYS

When doing a little shopping for your pet, find products made of recyclable or organic material. Many companies are now using resources such as organic hemp, organic cotton, or repurposed fabric. Research and get familiar with the environmental friendly options available in the market. Not only is it helping the environment, but many of the materials are safer for your dog.

FIND DOG TREATS WITH NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Rewarding your dog with a healthy and safe treat made with natural ingredients is a great way to show them how much you care while taking steps to live a greener lifestyle. Treats that are created with wholesome ingredients, containing no artificial preservatives or flavours, are delicious and healthy alternatives for your pet!

It never hurts to try and make your own dog treats as well. If you are a master chef in the kitchen, this can be a fun way to keep track of the ingredients you feed your dog, especially if allergies or weight is an issue. As for the rest of us, there are plenty of nutritious recipes that can be found online.

USE BIODEGRADABLE WASTE BAGS

Next time your pup decides to do the No. 2 during your daily stroll, pick up the doggie doo using a biodegradable bag. Not only will this prevent the waste from decomposing and contaminating landfills for years and years, but these bags can decompose without toxic residue polluting the air.

SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR DOG

Although this may seem like an odd way to help the environment, thousands of animals enter shelters every week. If we take the initiative to get our animals spayed or neutered, it gives more animals the chance to find a place to call home.

USE NATURAL PET GROOMING PRODUCTS

Find a shampoo that promotes a healthy skin and coat, made from natural ingredients. There are many natural shampoos that are developed with essential oils, vegetable proteins, and enriched with herbs. These shampoos are gentle on your pup’s skin and are very effective at moisturizing and protecting your pet’s coat.

Be careful with commercial shampoos, as they contain parabens, sodium based detergents, and other harsh chemicals that can strip your dog’s skin of its natural oils.

VISIT THE DOG PARK

Go out and visit green places together! Meeting fellow dog lovers at the dog park is a great way to spark conversation and spread the word about going green. Plus, it is a great way to get outside and appreciate our environment.

These easy steps can make a profound impact to this planet we all call home. Taking the right steps towards going green with your pet will help conserve our earth for the next generation of dogs and dog lovers to come.
